Describe/list the main I&E work you have undertaken over the last week. (List any reading you undertook or videos you watched (with links.) Briefly discuss how this work has helped you.)
This week I have covered the general introduction to Innovation and enterprise, the in depth definition of Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. What it means to be creative, innovative, enterprising and entrepreneurship. A brief expansion on this can be found in the weekly review section on this site. I have also completed all the class tasks within week 1 power point presentation as shown in my weekly review section.
List of readings includes:
1- Structuring Innovation, a Conceptual Model and Implementation Methodology, Enterprise and Innovation Management Studies, Vol. 2, No. 3, 2001, 177–194, by L. DOOLEY and D. O’SULLIVAN.
2- Social Capital and Entrepreneurship in Great Britain, Enterprise and Innovation Management Studies, Vol. 2, No. 2, 2001, 119–144, PETER ABELL, ROBERT CROUCHLEY and COLIN MILLS
3- What Does It Mean to be Enterprising? British Journal of Management Vol. 1, 137-145 (1990), By Sally Caird
Please note that I have accessed the above three Journals through LSBU library and the links to each one can be found in the weekly review section.
Videos I have watched include:
1- Talk Talk CEO talks about their strategic innovative collaboration venture with Huawei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tatcXZX8lDE
2- ABraham Hicks talks about being innovative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcMWN9nSVTs
Benefits from the above work
Reading the above information has given me a general understanding of what creativity, innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship is all about. I have gained a brief understanding of how to nurture creative in a business organisation, setting up strategic innovative partnership, the importance of innovation in a business. Above all the knowledge I have gained has given me a great insight about the creativity nature of the business.
Did you achieve all your goals for the module over the last week? (If not why not?)
Yes I did, this module section was very informative about the real world scenario
What aspects of Innovation and Enterprise do you now feel more confident about as a result of your work over the last week?
The great importance of innovation and creativity to any business organisation and how strategic partnership can help in remaining innovative and competitive even in businesses with small budgets. In other words innovation simply means being smart in the way a business wants to achieve its objective.
What aspects of your practical work/research were particularly difficult and how did you address these problems?
The difficult I found was that every business organisation seems to be secretive about its creativity process, after all creative is what gives a business a competitive edge. However there are some risks involved and this can cause a negative financial consequences if things happens to go wrong.
As a result of the work you have undertaken, what alternative strategies will you use in your studies over the next week? (i.e. what will you do differently as a result of the experience you have gained and if not why not?)
The strategy that I will definitely adapt is to be more creative and strategic in my approach to studies. Creativity is going to be very handy especially in the group project, generating ideas and working in partnership with others on the team.
What I&E work will you undertake over the next week? A work plan.
My focus when it comes to studies has always been reading the recommended text books and searching online for ways to tackle technical issues, however as from next week I will do more to explore other areas such as watching youtube videos, journals and other useful sources.
What University Services have you made use of? E.g. Support Classes, Careers Advice, Library etc…
Like most of the students in our faculty, I tend to spend a bit of time in the labs, library, career service etc. I generally tend to take advantage of most of the services on offer provided I find them beneficial to me.

This week I have covered the team work and Belbin Group roles
Belbin Team Roles theory is used in organisations to identify people's behavioural strengths and weaknesses. It is aimed at allocating people tasks within their area of strength.
It is assumed that people are more effective if given tasks within their skill set strength, they deliver to their maximum potential.
Working in groups on a project involves sharing resources and learned values in order to accomplish a given task.
For any group project to succeed, it has to combine these critical factors. Also for a group to be effective, each member has to respect the differences within the group.
The Double Diamond project approach
This involves dividing the project work into weekly tasks as shown week 2 presentation. https://vle.lsbu.ac.uk/pluginfile.php/950997/mod_folder/content/0/151006%20Week%202%20PP%20Teamwork%20Belbin.ppsx?forcedownload=1
Our project approach
At the initial stage of searching ideas for our project we have adapted the innowiz four steps approach in order to kick start our creativity process and from this we will find and select the project.
-
problem definition (defining the task to be carried out, identifying search areas)
-
idea generation (use of different techniques i.e. Brainstorming, Mind Mapping, etc.) This is in week 2 & 3,
-
idea selection (Week 4, Selection of an idea from the great pile to focus on).
-
idea communication (Group discussion about the decided idea). http://innowiz.be/method.html
-

Did you achieve all your goals for the module over the last week? (If not why not?)
Yes I did, this module section was very informative about the real world scenario
What aspects of Innovation and Enterprise do you now feel more confident about as a result of your work over the last week?
Working in groups and using various techniques to select an idea from all the generated ones without being bias.
And also not to dismiss an idea by face value before you have explored all options about it.
What aspects of your practical work/research were particularly difficult and how did you address these problems?
It wasn't difficult for me as there was so much information about this topic both in books and journals
As a result of the work you have undertaken, what alternative strategies will you use in your studies over the next week? (i.e. what will you do differently as a result of the experience you have gained and if not why not?)
The strategy that I will definitely adapt is to look at things more in depth than just dismissing them by just their appearance. I will take a serious look about various solution options to a problem.
In addition I will respect other team member's opinions provided their in the best interest of the team.
What I&E work will you undertake over the next week? A work plan.
Diamond 1 - Broadening
Expanding search area, generating more ideas
Using creativity tools such as: Brainstorming, Mind mapping etc.
What University Services have you made use of? E.g. Support Classes, Careers Advice, Library etc…

Describe/list the main I&E work you have undertaken over the last week. (List any reading you undertook or videos you watched (with links.) Briefly discuss how this work has helped you.)
This week ‘s topic is project management overview. It is a huge part of the module that we are covering for the next two weeks. It is conducted by guest lecturer Francis Babayemi.
This week I have covered the basics of the topic such as definition, its role in modern developed economy such as UK. Exploring what project management is all about i.e. the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques used in project activities in order to meet the expectation of stake holders. I have also looked at the elements of project management, the importance of using project management methods in any business project. In other words the best way to control project resources such as finance and better internal coordination etc..
I have also looked at the approach and techniques used such IDEO Human-centered design, the double diamond process model, the various quarters involved and what is supposed to be accomplished under each one. Other areas include: the project management tools, the lifecycle phases from 1-4, time and quality planning etc
Books I have read:
Project Management (2005), by Harvey Maylor, 3rd Edition, Prentice Hall p1-2, p23-26, p104, p153-156
Videos I have watched:
Did you achieve all your goals for the module over the last week? (If not why not?)
Yes I did. My objective was to get a basic understanding of what project management is all about and what role it plays in Innovation and enterprise. I also wanted to find out the methods and techniques used in the process and the phases as Francis mentioned in the lecture that progress of the project is measured in a number of ways i.e. work completed, time scale, efficiency etc. Despite the topic being so wide, I gained some basic understanding of what is all about.
What aspects of Innovation and Enterprise do you now feel more confident about as a result of your work over the last week?
I feel more confident about the fundamental importance of managing a business project. I have understood the crucial importance of time management. Budgets, setting targets that are realistic. Managing resources and emphasizing the objectives of the project to all those taking part
What aspects of your practical work/research were particularly difficult and how did you address these problems?
This section of the course is too wide; there is overwhelming amount information in the library about project management. Filtering out what you need to cover at this level is a bit hard. However the little I have covered with Francis has given me an understanding of the importance of project management in business.
As a result of the work you have undertaken, what alternative strategies will you use in your studies over the next week? (i.e. what will you do differently as a result of the experience you have gained and if not why not?)
There is not some I have learnt this week that I can incorporate in my studies, simply because these are business management issues rather than studies. However the topic has enhanced my knowledge and the crucial importance of project management to business especially those that deals with projects.
What I&E work will you undertake over the next week? A work plan.
Next week I will be continuing with project management and then after I will be joining my project team for assignment 1 meeting

This week I have looked at Pecha Kucha presentation style as this what we are required to use presenting our team project. This is a unique way of presenting; it involves the use of a few graphics compared to the traditional way that looks more like an exhibition. However learning about pecha kucha has introduced me to a new style of presenting that appears to capture the attention of the audience more than anything else we are used too. Pecha Kucha is the art of concise presentations where the presenter has to be efficient with their message. There is no time to waste. It is exciting to watch!
Videos I have watched:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHX-xnP_G5s Make a Presentation Like Steve Jobs: This video explains how a perfect pecha Kucha presentation is supposed to be done. And I will share this video with my project team.
Did you achieve all your goals for the module over the last week? (If not why not?)
Yes I did. My objective was to find out what this pecha kucha style of presentation is like. After watching a couple of video I got used to the idea and I am looking forward to start practicing it in our group project.
What aspects of Innovation and Enterprise do you now feel more confident about as a result of your work over the last week?
Without doubt it is presenting in this new pecha kucha style. I had no idea of what it is at the beginning, however having learnt about it, it appears to be very interesting especially in terms of lifting your confidence when you practice a few times.
What aspects of your practical work/research were particularly difficult and how did you address these problems?

This week I have looked at business model canvas and value proposition. The entrepreneurial tools that can be used by anyone to visually analyse, design, describe and adjust the core component of a given business. I have looked at the various structural components that make up business. It is on these core components that long term strategic plans are developed. In this process I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills that is helpful in analysing and designing a business model canvas of any business organisation. Assignment 2 of Innovation and Enterprise is based on this topic. Therefore this topic will be covered in greater details in the team project page on this site.
